I have a truly unfavorable habit.
Instead of enjoying the moment I’m in, I keep looking ahead to the next thing…the next event in life. While it’s perfectly fine to be excited for upcoming things in life, we need to be careful that we don’t get distracted from living life now!
It’s so easy to be dissatisfied with the now. Maybe we’re struggling through something difficult, or we’re just plain discontented! Why?
We are taking our focus off the Lord and trusting in the things around us to make us feel satisfied. We think the next thing is going to truly fulfill us! We’re impatient because we want this next thing now. We get discontented because we’re turning our thoughts away from Christ and putting them in earthly things.
I’m not saying fun things are bad. I’m saying if we make them our focus and miss out on what God has for us today, we’re developing a habit of trusting in stuff to bring us joy!
Philippians 4:6-7 Says – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Anxiety isn’t always about something frightening that might occur…it can also be about something your really want! (I want to learn to drive, now! What if I have to wait even longer!) (It be nice if it were winter. It’s soooo far away.) (I wish it were Saturday.)
All these things and many more can take our focus off what God has for us now!
Do you struggle with finding contentment in today? “…but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God.”
- Tell God ALL about your struggles.
- Ask Him consistently to show you what He has for you today and how you can show others His love.
- Work on developing a heart of joy. Look at the things happening around you. Think about what you could do to make someone else have a better day!
- Let God change you – “…And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
Have an awesome Saturday!
