Autumn – Journal Post #1 – Setting Goals

It is officially here, folks! AUTUMN.

This is my favorite time of the year! Scarves, sweaters, and crisp autumn mornings where you can curl up in a blanket with a hot cup of coffee…(with cream)…and soak in all that Autumn splender. 🙂

For me, this year, the coming of Autumn has also brought that familiar sense of falling into that end of September rut. Some of you may not know what I mean by a rut but It’s that feeling where, summer IS officially over, school has been in session for a month or so, and all those activities you weren’t used to in the summer are back…Everything feels a little overwhelming, at least for me.

It’s super easy to fall into a rut. You get up everyday, go through the same routine, and find yourself with those feelings of falling short.

I get so discouraged when another day passes and I haven’t finished a fraction of the things I wanted to finish. It’s important not to have a heart attack over it. I’m the kind of person who obsesses over stuff. I let my failures define me and that’s wrong. Failure doesn’t define you, it’s your attitude and reactions to the failure that show what kind of person you are. You can learn from your failings or you can beat yourself up about it.

One of the biggest things that can help me get out of a rut is creating a list of goals! It’s a new things for me this year really.

So what are some of my Autumn goals?

#1 – Read my Bible everyday. Have that special time to grow and thrive in God’s word.

#2 – Journal before bed. Let myself relax by writing out the events of the day and my thoughts.

#3 – PRACTICE my violin at least three times a week. I know to some of you, you might live and breathe practicing your music but for me, honestly I find it so difficult. I enjoy playing my instrument but sometimes I just don’t want to do it. Too bad, I tell myself. I NEED to practice!

#4 – Start each day with a joyful heart. Don’t worry about all the stuff I need to do but ENJOY the activities.

#5 – Don’t rush ahead. I have a super bad habit of wanting the days to fly by so I can enjoy something happening later on in the week. While being excited for something isn’t bad, when you focus on that and that only, you miss out on all the other wonderful things happening.

Those are just a few of my Autumn goals. When December rolls around, I’ll let you know how well I accomplished them.

Alrighty, now I want to turn to you. Did you see my #6 goal? I want to blog but seriously, I have no idea what to blog about! I want you all to enjoy reading my posts so I want to have variety every time I post.

My question for you all is this –

What kind of posts would you like to see? Just comment below with any ideas! I’d love to see what you all would like to read about on Beautiful Things.

Also, I’m currently trying to define what Beautiful Things is and how I want to use it to encourage and impact lives! I’ll be sharing with you all soon. 🙂

Have a great afternoon/evening everyone!

  1. Hey Laura! I personally enjoy your historical fiction and the devotionals you occasionally do. Keep up the good work!

  2. Echoes of Honor…XD

I’d love to see you review some of your favorite books! I love reviews and they can be great when you are in blogging rut 😉

  3. Fall’s my favorite season too!! 👏 I know what you mean about getting in a rut, though—it usually happens in summer for me, for whatever reason—and that feeling of “I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE TODAY” is enough to drive me crazy!! Something that always helps me is talking a long walk. 😉
Well, EoH is the natural choice… 🙃 What about, like, recommended books or movies for the seasons? (Something I’ve been brainstorming…)
