Tips for Life

I’ve never really found out what the big deal is about Valentine’s Day.  Yes, I know where and how it originated but it has never been a hugely exciting thing for me.  This is not to say you’re wrong if you celebrate it or anything, please don’t think that, but I believe a lot of people use this day to dwell on what kind of love they don’t have, instead of thanking God for the people He has put in their lives…TODAY!

I’m officially an “adult,”…and I’m not crying my eyes out that I don’t have a guy to ask me out on a date.  Don’t get me wrong…one of my heart’s deepest desires is to get married someday and have a family, but I think too many people focus on guy/girl relationships during Valentine’s Day, instead of celebrating the other relationships in their lives.

Don’t feel embarrassed or out of touch because other people your age have a boyfriend or girlfriend.  God has you right where He wants you!  Like I said, I know some people might really struggle on days like today and I want you to know I’m praying for you!  Maybe it is your dream to get married and have a family and each year you’re getting older…Don’t be discouraged.  God is writing and beautiful story for you!  Don’t try to read the ending right now.  Enjoy each chapter. 🙂

If you feel discouraged or just a little disappointed you don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend, take time today to celebrate the other people in your life.

  • Make Valentine cards for younger siblings!
  • Have a cup of coffee with your Mom and tell her how much you appreciate her.
  • Encourage any unmarried brothers you might have.  Tell them how thankful you are for them.
  • Give Dad a big hug, thank him for loving and staying faithful to you and your family.
  • Encourage an unmarried friend!
  • Take time to thank God that He is always faithful.  Tell Him you trust Him no matter where you are in life.

A Time of Reflection:

James 1:5

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach and it will be given to him.”

God cares about your deep desires, He wants to bless you.  Oftentimes are wallowing in self-pity about what we don’t have, comes from a lack of wisdom and faith.  We can’t see past our own desires and therefore are miserable.  Instead of feeling this way today, or any other day, ask God for wisdom.  Ask Him to show you His love and marvelous goodness!  If you sincerely ask, God will give you the hope to continue through a world infatuated with hopelessness.  Rest in Him today!

  1. Thanks so much for this!! I’m not one of those people desperate to be in a relationship, at all, and I really don’t understand why the world thinks I should enjoy Valentine’s Day less because I’m almost 19 and not remotely in a relationship. We’ve always just made it a fun day to spoil our family…that’s a relationship, like you said. 😍
